Blackdown RC Flying Club

Blackdown Radio Control Flying Club operates from the WW2 airfield, RAF Upottery (Smeatharpe), located approximately 8 miles from Honiton. The airfield was used by the USAAF as a base for glider operations during the 1944 D Day landings, and was vacated by the USAAF shortly afterwards.

Smeatharpe has been used for model flying since the 50’s. The present club was formed in the early 70’s, and presently has over 60 members, flying mainly fixed wing.

Flying is permitted between 8.00 am and 10.00 pm. The site is generally available 7 days a week throughout the year, but is occasionally closed for external events – see Events Calendar for more details.
